A Walk Down Memory Lane
Caye Caulker was uninhabited until the middle of the nineteenth century, when a small number of the refugees fleeing civil war on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula ended up there. The settlers planted coconuts and eventually developed a profitable fishing industry based on cooperatives.

Beginning in the 1960's, small numbers of tourists began visiting Caye Caulker. Tourism has increased substantially since then, especially since the new airstrip was built at the outskirts of town in 1992.

But Caye Caulker is still a relaxed beach town..

2nd in Price and Size, but First in Your Heart
Caye Caulker, located 21 miles northeast of Belize City and 11 miles south of Ambergris Caye, is the second largest of the Belizean cayes.

While Ambergris Caye started attracting tourists first, Caye Caulker has recently started to become the preferred destination for many travelers.

The island is about 4 miles long, but the village is only around a mile long. Most shops and restaurants are located on Front Street, the main road that runs parallel to the Beach.

Over the past few years, as tourism increased, new businesses and services have begun to appear. There are restaurants serving everything from old style Belizean Dishes to Fresh Pastas and Seafood. You can even get Cappuccino and Fresh Made Bagels at a local Cafe. Caye Caulker now boasts a High Speed / Satellite Cyber Cafe offering the most up to date internet service available country wide.

Caye Caulker is a popular destination. It's old style Caribbean Charm is apparent in everything from the Colorful Cottages lining Front to the friendly warm- hearted Locals always will to lend a helping hand and to remind you to "Go Slow".

Although Caye Caulker originally attracted Scuba Divers, Snorkellers, Anglers, and Budget Tourists,  travelers of all types are now booking Caye Caulker as their destination, taking advantage the relaxed atmosphere and more affordable prices, unique to Caye Caulker.

Other Options
Caye Caulker is located between Caye Chapel and Ambergris Caye (San Pedro)
Caye Chapel is a privately owned island that has been turned into a high end Golf Resort.
Ambergris Caye is the most developed Caye. They allow cars and truck, and tend to be much more congested than Caye Caulker.
