Dinner Only
Closed MONDAYS
Mains: BZ$14 - BZ$40

Although the name suggests a Mexican joint, the menu here goes beyond standard Mexican fare. You can get home-made pastas and Thai coconut curries, as well as Brazilian pork. You can also get spicy fajitas made of beef, chicken, or jerk pork. The nightly specials tend to be an inventive take on whatever fresh fish and seafood had been caught that day. Heavy wooden tables are spread across the pleasant open-air wraparound veranda of this raised-stilt wooden home right on Front Street. There's also indoor seating, but you'll really want to try to grab one of the outdoor spots...sangria is served by the pitch and there's a pretty good wine list for Caye Caulker.

SEAFOOD / INTERNATIONAL

Lunch and Dinner
Closed Mondays
Mains: BZ$12 - BZ$40

Built over the water near the center of town, this is a great place to dine to the sound of water lapping against the pilings below your feet. A dozen or so wooden tables with plastic chairs are set around the screened-in restaurant...Try to grab a table by the outer railing. closest to the water. Chicken, fish, conch, shrimp and lobster are all offered in a variety of preparations from simply grilled or fried or served with sauces ranging from lemon-ginger to Cajun. All are very well prepared and tasty. The lunch menu is much simpler and less expensive. I particularly like the conch fajitas.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Closed Wednesdays
Mains: BZ$12 - BZ$30

This is easily my favorite restaurant on Caye Caulker. The food is excellent, the menu eclectic, the portions huge, the prices right, and the service friendly and efficient. What's more, the setting is idyllic - in the heart of town, just steps from the water. Tables are set in the sand under palm trees, or in the sand-floored open-air covered dining area. Appetizers include fabulous conch fritters and deep-fried crab rolls. There are several namesake pasta dishes, as well as Thai curries, and everything from chicken to conch and lobster is served grilled, blackened or with a spicy Jamaican jerk sauce. Vegetarians are well cared for here as well, with various dishes to choose from. Whatever you do, same room for some of their B-52 Cheesecake, flavored with Bailey's and Kahlua and baked in an Oreo cookie crust. Breakfasts here are huge and hearty. If you like the food, be sure to pick up some of their homemade spice packages.

SAND BOX
Seafood / International

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Open 7 days a week
Mains: BZ$6 - BZ$28

This places gets its name from the fact that it features a sand floor, both inside and (obviously) out. I prefer the outdoor tables in the shade of broad-leafed seagrape trees. Either way, you'll be able to choose from an extensive menu of Belizean and international dishes. Seafood is the strong suit here, but you can also get chicken or meat dishes. You can have your fresh fish filet served with an almond and garlic butter sauce, or spicy banana chutney. Budget hounds call fill up on burgers, burritos and quesadillas. The daily happy hour (3-6pm) is quite popular here.
